more than one too many times by Morgan D Hafeleit's a long walk from here to infinity
and the sun never rises entirely
over this path
darkened from travel
with my burden
light from baggage
misplaced, forgotten
or just left behind
each step is one further from the beginning
one closer to the inevitable fall
into the final dream.
i'll let my brain wander until
it finds home
or whatever is closest to.
a familiar feeling under a road sign
pointing to nowhere
a rotting tree with leaves still
hanging on for any reason
beyond my imagination.
someone once asked me if i needed a ride.
"to where?" i asked
they drove off and didn't look back.
there's no stopping
no taxi
just heavy memories and boots
passing over everything
that's been trampled into
dead asphalt 05/12/2011 Author's Note: written for the may contest, terribly cheery isn't it?

Posted by Chris Sorrenti on 05/23/11 at 04:10 PM I like this a lot Morgan. Doesn't have to be cheery; but an honest reflection of soulful meditation. Well done! |
Posted by Julie Adams on 05/24/11 at 03:15 PM what you have captured herein, for me, is a desolation, an arid desert of humanity where the earth cracks open and questions seep out...hey, Spring is nothing without the relief of rain...peace to u, jewels |
Posted by Kristine Briese on 05/24/11 at 04:14 PM I find this to be a wonderful rendition of image becoming words. Well done! |
Posted by James Zealy on 05/26/11 at 12:08 PM Well considering it made the top 10 it must be too cheesy nicely done Morgan |

Posted by Charlie Morgan on 05/26/11 at 09:20 PM ...didn't see this in top 10, that road. did you pass me on it...i slip a lot, but i like your mode...jes' walk & walk & walk somemore...love this twist while on that one road, it's a doozy. |
Posted by Anita Mac on 06/01/11 at 05:26 AM "If you don't know where you're going, any road will take you there." This is dreary, sure, but so good, and so well suited to the image. Another nice write, Morgs! |
