the flame gone out

by Andrew S Adams

the flame gone out in this empty house
her soul lying in a hospital bed nine miles away
noise replaces the silence to cover the drone of appliances
that function, in part, as a life support system for this
whole enterprise.

Louder now, but with less heart
i wander from room to room,
examining her anatomy inside the skeleton
Searching for a revelation

but the flame gone out in this empty house
and i'm stumbling over endtable corners (slightly sharp)
and pianos (slightly flat)

The cacophony in the dark sent an ache
that electrified the entirety of her being.

She was for a brief second a home again,
before she lept into the night sky

Wrenching, essential stuff. I loved it.
