That Bar

by Gregory R Schelske

Smokey silhouettes
and dime store kisses
meddled in sets
with fancy misses
and fancy misters
under dim lights
with spouses' sisters
and barroom fights-
cigarettes
and boozy booze
spinning rooms
and losing shoes
and losing more
(like your lunch)
on the floor
its all too much-
liquor breaks
cheap dates
expensive nights
bed mates
(but just for an hour)
right down the hall-
for a hundred dollars.
And when at last
last call cheers
that lasting call
of final beers
and saying so long
to Johnny and Jack
everyone
will be right back.
