Fossil Speak

by Chris Sorrenti

Rose by Baby Red Cheeks photo rosebybabyredcheeksRED.jpg

without your spark of life
reluctant though accepting
I'll regress
across our history
sink back
into the primordial soup
that spawned this anomaly
of heartthrob
failed evolutional experiment
torn of romance's big bang
slowly disappear from sight
beneath layer upon layer
of sedimentary mud
my soul to petrify
over millennia
until someday
love's paleontologists
delicately brush away
the diamond encrusted shroud
reassemble this
passion’s skeletal remains
to scratch their heads
with academic fervor
theorize what went wrong
the truth of what we were
could have become
forever locked
into these bared bones

Great pictures, but they don't even come close to touching how awesome the words are.

Love the gliding rhythm here. Lovely piece.

It always seems a puzzle long after it is gone what really went wrong, and the imagery of your words was phenomenal...I had a brush dusting the end of every letter. Well done.

I love the flow and consistency here...the images add the thousand needed words they always bring along...the "package" gives me a solid view of the poems very intent voice. Delighted, and thanks.

I love this, a canyon where love's residue will ever paint the rocks, kudos

Like a fine wine, the longer it takes to read this, the better it gets.

Chris, This is an extraordinarily evocative work! The imagery is akin to stop-motion down the ages! I feel haunted at a visceral level - I think because I can relate so well to the tone and theme of your work here. Lovely!!
