Melancholy Earthworm

by Eric Seligmann

I cry thick tears for melancholy earthworm
These slow paths fill my day with luxury
Sad how good it feels to cry
Sad how easy it is to stop and die
Sad and sad and sad and sad
I cry, I laugh, I sigh, I die

It is such a clear and dazzling morning
You are in a can with all of your friends
I can almost hear the fish's warning
These good times must also end

So come to me, my melancholy earthworm
Snuggle up to my mourning fish hook
Don't you wish you could stop squirming?
When I drop you into this cold brook

Oh, melancholy, melancholy
Why can't you be more jolly?
I have not a melancholy thing to spend with you
Oh you funny melancholy earthworm
I have seen your ending and it's near
But that does not mean that I am not melancholy too
But that does not mean that I am not melancholy too
But that does not mean that I am not melancholy, earthworm

I chuckle, I sigh, I feel I will soon be on the hook in the cold brook. Indeed....
