Twilight

by Glenn Currier

My leaden legs and arms
are hanging chains
rusted with the day’s long sweat.
My darkening mind seems detached,
weary of a day’s mistakes
that knell the end of parting day.

What knells the twilight of your day?

My grip so tight on the tails
of every act and word
that made and unmade
the history of my March
now slowly loosens
on the rope that knells the end of parting day.

What knells the twilight of your day?

This moment of letting go
my mind wanders
to the laugh we had at coffee,
remembering the petty fight
over a big nothing that parted us too long.
Now a grin is knelling end of parting day.

What knells the twilight of your day?

In this sweet release my mind stumbles on wonder.
I kick my rocky ruins down a hill
to a distant crossroad in the mist
beckoning me to a door marked "eternal."
Is this the moment of my twilight
the knell of my parting day?

What knells the twilight of your day?

And now I breathe the setting of the sun.
Embers of powdery joy
fly to a darkening sky
and whisper a vesper psalm
making light from clouds
and dreams that knell the end of parting day.

What dreams will knell the ending of your day?

The repetition of those questions are put to good work. I like how it keeps coming back to that. Nice write, sir.

...glennus de DeSoto, a well written styled in shabby-sheek and lusters with the reps of knell; and as you stir "your" posits regarding life[yours] you ask Everyman, what is yours...and that question is daily, minute by minute, hour, etc...i bet it was received warmly.

A wonderfully reflective poem challenging the reader to consider what will be the worth of life - not only each day but when Eternity faces us directly!

Glenn, your words have a peaceful flow that wave like water - pacifically - and create a thought within that brings one to a God, a Creator, whatever one chooses to call Him. In coming to Him, there are so many things to think about - what to change, what to forget, and how to do better. I'm glad you decided to share it. ~Chelle~

A beautifully written read of the gift of letting go.
