Inner Cosmos

by Kristina Woodhill

The total lack of sensation
as the small blood vessel
broke in the tear-duct corner

of her eye, allowing a bright red river
to swarm leisurely in its tiny flow
to other realms of its tiny planet

made the mirror's later reflection
one of intense inner-cosmic discovery
where a child of chaos had pushed

and tugged a birth passage open
into its outer encirclement,
its smooth, moist white blanket,

entangled ever so slightly now,
red pressing against a turquoise
vibrant teasing circle of color

the only barrier
between it
and the perfect black hole

of first sight
