Death Wings Us All by Maria Terezia Ferenczshe awoke
all she could feel
all she was
was the rain
kissing her face
cold so cold
stinging her in a way
that was welcome
Death wings us all
even the least deserving
it flooded her memory
with images
rain
laughter, running, love
stinging her in a way
that was welcome
her skin strained to touch it
feel it all, wind, rain
cold so cold
reaching out fingers of want
unwilling to let go
death wings us all
even the least deserving
struggling to recall
who she was before
before the rain
memories flooded
her mind
oh yes, she could see it now
she smiled, tasted rain
fun so fun
dancing, singing, drinking
much too much
death wings us all
even the least deserving
ripped from her reverie
screams of pain drowned
the rain
sirens, moans of a grief
deep much too deep
fear flooded her brain
rain so much rain
drinking too much
driving too fast
a woman
a child
she tried to stop
but the rain
the rain
she slid
oh God
had she?
Death wings us all
even the least deserving 03/11/2011

Posted by Chris Sorrenti on 03/17/11 at 12:13 AM What an incredible poem! In both its message and use of repetition. And quite appropriate for the times we live in, when the concept ia extended to places like the Middle East and Japan. |
Posted by Kristine Briese on 03/17/11 at 04:08 AM Wrenching, and the repetition adds a magnetism. Artfully handled. |
Posted by Charlie Morgan on 03/19/11 at 04:57 PM ...what kristine said! this is the pome that i saw/read earlier before in my post on another of your pomes...so artfully done, the repetition wonderfully works--a cherry-on-the-top-treat.a touching-many-places-pome. |
Posted by Julie Adams on 03/21/11 at 02:44 AM I love the flow of this tumultuous piece, kudos on it: development, imagery, sound, and emotional turmoil, all well crafted, even down to the "rabbit hole" form, though that last part could be just me, I see that tale everywhere ;) a pleasure to share this, peace, jewels |
