II - To Whom Beauty Gives

by Austin Halling-Rowe

Let me gaze upon the facets of your pose--
Like a gem I have said, though a gem lets me forget!
More as a flower, yet more as a rose,
Whose yawning bud debuts as nights stars set,
And blushing affluence stretches to grace the day.
Your loveliness hallows you to worth,
And gives you terms past vex'd disdain.
Yet you grieve your lauded state
To know that which beauty gives, in balance,
So must it also take.
To give you ravaged anguish for long as you live?
Or 'till petals fall in time's mortal wake.
Dear tears course that you trouble so,
For Nature's claim for virtue is ever woe!

Author's Note: Diane (my first wife) was THE MOST BEAUTIFUL WOMAN on Earth. She had the face, she had the figure, she had the boobs. But she hated it!
