I am the square

by Kristina Woodhill

Today I am the square,
the straight sides of arial
“l's”, "t's" with that special
tiny cross bearing all;

ignoring the rounded,
I refuse the kiss of “o's”
mouth
diregard the “a” standing
on one leg, lolling

I might keep the “i” around
for its upside down
exclamation

but the point keeps
eye-ing me, telling
me what to do

a small fat teacher
niggling on and on
about my last composition

cross and dot
cross and dot

a slashing red-line smarty

causing digression
hesitation
a halt to the running

stream my feet barely
had the chance to feel,
the cold icy

prying loose
the lazy warm;
I claim the cube's

position- I, 3D square -
put your glasses on!

I am here
to melt
your drink

Why doesn't it surprise me that you can lend personality to the inanimate :>
