Revenge at the jeweler

by E. A. Pugh

Revenge at the jeweler

Practical as I am
that bauble
on my hand
was inadequate
too gaudy for the pain
you caused me.

Just not the appropriate twinkling diamond revenge accessory

But over there…
There…
slinking in the case
was the silent and classy tundra princess cut sapphire
bracelet revenge
shining and classy
the perfect accessory to pain you caused me.

I had it sized
I wrote the huge check.
but I changed my mind
I had them take it back
I made a mistake
I want a tractor instead
So I can burry your body when you are dead.

Interesting to me that the subject of the poem is not dead yet. I've never understood jewelry really, or the symbolism. I mean, the obvious symbolism of a wedding or engagement ring is one thing, but beyond that, I don't really get it. I've never looked at jewelry from quite this perspective before, although I used to wear this one earring in my right ear that was a symbol for me journeying through life solo. I found myself, as I re-read this piece, wishing you would expand what different jewelry pieces could mean to the wearer, even to the buyer.

Also, fascinating perspective and thank you for bringing it here. I meant to say that at the end of the last post :)

This is quite a piece. Very well written from start to finish. I like your take on the subject.

Ouch! Nicely stated Edith. Great buildup to a (pardon the pun) killer ending. The use of diamond, sapphire adds extra weight and impact to the message.
