When Free'd

by Austin Halling-Rowe

A free soul but captured heart.
I'm your's one day then mine
Apart, like sunhine on a winter day,
Like the thorns of roses, like
Bitter, overaged wine.

What other beast when barred
Does not long for endless
Clover meadows,
And when free'd
Does not crave the soft walls

Of companionship.
