IX - Tears and Honey

by Austin Halling-Rowe

When at times seemed cool dispassion,
Seen through another's eyes,
Was long ago confused compassion;
Emotions led divided lives.
Now, as my soul has tasted the day's passing,
And nights unsheltered have chilled my sleep,
I cannot grieve without part laughing,
No longer laugh without part weep.
Tears and honey fold together,
As pain and joy are one.
To know the half's to know well the other,
Night's but day without the sun.
Nor, if one denied can we be content,
'Till it realized each is heaven sent.
