Love is like a cat

by Linda Fuller

Love is like a cat
it sidles up to you
purring and soft
then claws come out
and tear you into pain

12/30/2010

Author's Note: Written in junior high, I believe. It popped into my mind earlier today when our six month old hellcat clawed one of my fingertips.

Very good for junior high, and an excellent analogy at that! And yet through living with three cats, I've learned they can be taught to be gentle with their claws. The best is when one or the other is lying on top of me, then reach up and put a paw on my mouth...lips, with claws retracted.

I love this poem. The beauty of it is that it is commical and painfuly truthful all at once. very clever and enjoyable. :)
