XVIII - Despise Me Please! by Austin Halling-RowePretend--just--that you love me,
With kisses on my brow and cheek,
And smiles with all but your eyes.
And if not that--
Pretend--just--that you like me,
And observe my hallmark days
With careful, distant duty.
And if not that--
Pretend--just--that you accept me,
And look upon my face--
Just look upon my face.
And if not that--
Pretend, most pretend--just
That you despise me--just--me. 12/27/2010 Author's Note: I'll take hate over indifference anytime!

Posted by Jeffrey Parren on 12/28/10 at 05:07 PM I really like "And observe my hallmark days // With careful, distant duty." I instantly picture a writer toiling over some epic piece of writing and someone coming over to ask a stupid or mundane question and once it was dealt with coming back to that writing moment is nearly impossible, the genius ruined in an instant. ~JPP |
