i am a woman who prays by Lori St. Georgei am a woman who prays
i get down on my knees
every night
and i don't need
a stable roof or walls to defend me
or a huge fortune to create me
my soul has always been free
if anything
i always looked too far off
to actually see
but i digress...here comes the night
and my courage
and beauty fades
and the hour crawls upon me
with
a hope not to be forgotten
and a chance to tell you that I love you
and for once
to wish it all away
i have been in school for a long time
wanting a treasure to be mine
expecting to find strength in a straight line
but discover that great minds
don't stay in a straight line at all
but I depart...here comes the night
it finds me
as the stars are lifting
and I am crying out
to my soul underneath
bursting out my eyes
and drawing down my cheeks
the same painting
that shows
a hope to not to be forgotten
and a chance to tell you that I love you
and for once
to wish it all away
i was a child once, and i feel it
there are tattered pictures to prove it
but i always knew i would forget it
i guess that's what pictures are for
but i stray...here comes the night
and i chase this night
with desires of more life
knowing that tomorrow
holds the possibility of
an endless sorrow
tears don't even matter anymore
they are footsteps on floors
thousands across the world
too many I have heard
too many times to count
and none mattered much to me
but yours
and,
when every thought I have ever had
slowly destructs and fades
i wonder if i will be afraid
when all that remains
is,
a hope not to be forgotten
and a chance to tell you that I love you
and for once
to wish it all away

Posted by Ken Harnisch on 12/22/10 at 02:53 PM I agree with Tracey. Not only well-constructed but romantically elegant and emotionally powerful. The repetitions work so well, especially "a chance to tell you/ that I love you
and for once/ to wish it all away." Added to my faves.

Posted by Morgan D Hafele on 02/23/11 at 02:15 PM when all is said and done and all we have left is ourselves, maybe we find something new... what an amazing piece! |
Posted by Julie Adams on 02/25/11 at 07:34 PM I agree with all the above comments, esp about the amazing repetitions, and would like to add that I love the depth, insight, and humanity you weave throughout this piece, particularly BETWEEN the repetition stanzas, namely 1,3,5,7, and the closing stanza...well done, deserving of the top rated list! peace, jewels |
