Legalities

by Drew May

Cobblestones, shellacked with time,
narrow streets, tall chimneys, soot,
roofs of asphalt caked with lime,
tallowed windows, rewarding loot.

Narrow streets, tall chimneys, soot,
hatred monsoons cannot detain,
tallowed windows, rewarding loot,
miscreants sing vicious refrain.

Hatred monsoons cannot detain,
dirty archways with no audience,
miscreants sing vicious refrain,
destroying youth’s permanence.

Dirty archways with no audience,
tall peaks of decadent wealth,
destroying youth’s permanence,
behind plate glass, decaying health.

Innocence burgled in the night,
roofs of asphalt, caked with lime,
London sleeping not quite right,
cobblestones, shellacked with time.

This is pretty great. You have an excellent sense of rhythm.

Very nicely contructed and evocative.

Pantoum away my friend. Love the tight construction and truly unique use of dancing repetition. A definite add to favorites!
