breathe deeply

by Melissa Arel

i cradled you in my arms tonight,
kissed your face like a child
while your eyes spoke of weariness
and your brows furrowed in unrest.

let me sigh sweet-nothings in your ear
as you take comfort in my affection.

bury yourself deep within my breast
where all your worries gently subside
for you will find a safe refuge here
and my love will nurture your wounds.

Author's Note: what do you do when you give of yourself so much that there is nothing left? sometimes love isn't enough.
