you told me i was beautiful

by Melissa Arel

i pulled the straps over my shoulders,
fingertips dragging along my skin.
the shirt fell off the peak of my arms
and gathered at the bend of my elbows,
exposing my open back to your perusal.
your eyes grazed my tattooed flesh
by the light of the moon, as i
revealed to you a portion of my frame.

and you told me i was beautiful
and there was sincerity in your eyes

that night we held one another close,
breathing in each other's incense
as our mouths met in yearning
and our legs intertwined with fervor.
we spoke in sonnets and whispers,
and i felt shaded in your embrace
as my heart found its home in you.

i didn't want to let you go then,
and i never thought i would have to.

This is beautiful, such a poigiant moment and captured so perfectly with your words. The last line makes the entire poem! Excellent.
