beside a pond

by Jared Fladeland

this ironclad fist deposits sunsets
on my cheek
as i stare down into the motionless pond
spinning my own reflection into an image of you,
a dancing pile of rose petals
with the sweet name of love on your breath.

but the stars in the sky
makes the sparkle in your eyes
and i can't stop smiling
because i feel you inside of me, like helium
lifting me away from this bank.

the wind whispers through the long grass,
and the rhythm is your voice
saying all the sweet blossom things
you'd be whispering in my ear if you
weren't already here.

that's the magic between us,
how you can be so far away, yet i find you
in this pond.

I'm intrigued by "the ironclad fist" - have no clue what to do with it, but it certainly draws me in. Loved the images in this - it touches all the senses. Your words deliver the magic that you feel. Congrats on POTD!
