Virginia & Edgar by Drew MayEvery night into my room,
shadows filtering the gloom
you entered with a loaded broom,
sweep away bad dreams of mine,
Countless evenings, thick and thin
I’d count on you to come again,
silence the cackling, wretched din
built upon lost dreams of mine,
Oozing, pulsing demons near
munitions make intentions clear
ran scattering from those I fear
momentous evil dreams of mine,
Ravens cry with sickening song,
twisting and choking my innards long,
while I cry out from vociferous throng
remove these deadly dreams of mine
You with fairest eyes and face
who demons would not dare disgrace,
remove me from evil’s crevice
deliver safe, sick dreams of mine,
Luminous are your hands and dress,
casting away decrepit excess
simply you seek to caress,
to coddle and kill dreams of mine,
Yet childlike beauty and virtue lost
life like china, delicate, tossed,
death collected my own cost
so you were lost to dreams of mine
Your comforts are not to be found
shortest slumbers, long and loud,
I do not sleep upon a cloud,
they come to get me, dreams of mine.
Age may harden my sundry flame,
ravens circle while I lie lame
never to ascend to your angelic fame,
hellions are hungry in dreams of mine
Madness eats in its due time.
