After the storm

by Tessa Grey

awake with my dreams
a secret behind us
wine the color of
coagulated blood
bitter and fitting
for the occasion

You said I didn't deserve this
pain
sour the taste of honey
how have I become my own blood
whispering to my heart
each movement a star burst of fresh anguish
fulfilling the prophecy

this trembling organ
will only keep life
long enough
to suffer

as one who oft finds himself horribly awake with his dreams, and that trembling and terribly suffering organ I empathize with you words and all they suggest. welcome aboard.

I really love the image you created with the words "coagulated blood". Fits very well with the atmosphere.

Welcome to the party. This is a hell of a good way of saying hello. Nice work.

Yes, I echo the welcomes, Tessa. And I love that first stanza...a lot. Sets the tone well!

Excellent first poem, Tessa! Welcome to Pathetic--I look forward to seeing more from you. That first stanza is as brutal as they come.

Storms have a way of passing but what they leave in their wake may be worse than the storm itself. I also welcome you to the pathetic playground. Write on...
