At play and war

by Jim Benz

a closer examination
empty jargon and the sterile clinic
exiles of the intuitive
poked fun at the overly ambitious
resistance to change
shrewd enough to see
society's loss of soul
symbols, ideographs, and hieroglyphics
the abstract and the non-representational
the arid textbook drone
their inner torments, voices, and visions
the right of others to experience
the roots of these words
