something to be written by Paganini Jones
always
something to be written
a faded train ticket
just enough for today's list
chicken fajitas
sudden irritation
of advertising
on yesterday's receipt
she remembers too late
fumbling for a pen
then using an eyebrow pencil
for the crossword
fidgeting with his cuffs
he notes the phone number
didn't wash out
wondering
if she will be there
he adds a question mark,
blushes at a child's stare
on the tube,
toddler's wet finger
smiles on the window
an early stack
of Christmas cards
but where is the list?
Where is her best pen?
he phones her
but no reply. he sighs.
sips his pint
the phone stops ringing.
seeing caller ID
she would note it down,
ring back later
but always
an empty pen
by the phone
she throws it
away

Posted by Kristina Woodhill on 09/25/10 at 01:44 AM I enjoyed the obstacles in this, the determination to "get it down" regardless, and the ending frustration. |
