Coathanger by Richard VinceThat beautiful dress should be filled
With you, not dangling limply from
A cold, hard coathanger.
I miss your warmth, your softness;
That radiant, wide eyed smile, and
Your voice that sounds like home.
It won’t be home when I get back:
Merely a quiet, empty house, dormant
Until your return; a place for me
To wait for you.
Wherever I go, I carry you in my heart,
In the same way that the coathanger
Carries your dress: a reminder of
How much better is the real you.

Posted by Amy Niggel on 09/14/10 at 02:05 PM This is just lovely. I think every woman should have someone who feels that way about her. *sigh* |
Posted by Anita Mac on 09/16/10 at 03:50 AM I really just love this, it's so heart-warming. I may need to just start re-reading your entire library... You have such a fantastic tint to those glasses. |
Posted by Laura Doom on 09/19/10 at 01:11 PM Another classic piece to hang elegantly in your poetic wardrobe :> |

Posted by Kristine Briese on 11/09/10 at 02:47 AM Oh, Richard, this is just wonderful! Beautiful and romantic, and so satisfying. Vote for POTD, I say. |
Posted by Therese Elaine on 11/10/10 at 04:12 AM Richard, I can't think of what else to say except that this poem evoked a memory of one of my most favourite scenes in a film...which I am including the link to -you absolutely touched that sense of loss and absence right where it hurts most...
