Coathanger

by Richard Vince

That beautiful dress should be filled
With you, not dangling limply from
A cold, hard coathanger.

I miss your warmth, your softness;
That radiant, wide eyed smile, and
Your voice that sounds like home.

It won’t be home when I get back:
Merely a quiet, empty house, dormant
Until your return; a place for me
To wait for you.

Wherever I go, I carry you in my heart,
In the same way that the coathanger
Carries your dress: a reminder of
How much better is the real you.

The opening to this is just perfect. A terrific introduction to an excellent poem.

This is just lovely. I think every woman should have someone who feels that way about her. *sigh*

I really just love this, it's so heart-warming. I may need to just start re-reading your entire library... You have such a fantastic tint to those glasses.

Another classic piece to hang elegantly in your poetic wardrobe :>

What a great premise and so skillfully developed. I enjoyed this very much.

Oh, Richard, this is just wonderful! Beautiful and romantic, and so satisfying. Vote for POTD, I say.

Richard, I can't think of what else to say except that this poem evoked a memory of one of my most favourite scenes in a film...which I am including the link to -you absolutely touched that sense of loss and absence right where it hurts most... http://www.youtube.com/user/tooomat#p/u/65/RV0GSHqjadY

So romantic. A beautiful sentiment and expression of love. Nicely written.
