I Still Care

by Ken Harnisch

You should know
My heart, which
I stored away
For the season,
Still beats
More rapidly
When it
Hears from yours

Knowing that
Will never change
I have taken pains
To encase it
In heavy paper
And string
And put it
High upon the shelf

Out of reach and
Out of sight
So if I do stumble
It will be in the dark
And no one else will
Know

But you, who have always
Listened keenly to the silence
Would hear me falling
From afar.

Then ask after me
When I least expect it

That is why I still care

It is only in the dark that we hear the most. We hear the other heart beat from miles and miles. Nice write Ken.

Awwwww. Precious heart of yours.

I appreciate the economy of words, the straight forward (un-sappy) caring that your words carry, the placement of your heart.

Love this! Especially since I can totally relate to it right now *big sigh, followed by warm smile*

So sweet without being sugary and authentic. Totally beautiful, Ken.
