Jalopy Run (true story) by Wendy SparlingMom jumped in da car, we gotta get goin,
we're gonna be late, da winds a blowin
Sit in da back, and be a good girl,
Momma's gonna drive,
she's gonna give it a whirl
All excited, as a lil' girl can be,
I cuddled my dolly, close to me
For this is da first time I have ever seen,
my Momma drivin.. Dad's limousine
A mighty big cough, oil a spewin'
Momma can't drive, Dad wasn't foolin'
But Dad was at work, and had no choice
but hand her da keys, for what it's worth
Jerked down da road, jumpin' puddles you see
Me laughin' in da back, she just missed a tree
Hurray for Momma, look at her go!
We made it to da dock, wouldn't ya know
She told me to be quiet, for ole times sake,
for she forgot to release the emergency brake!

Author's Note: Before my mom passed away in 1980, we talked about all the funny memories I hold dear. She was amazed I'd remembered this day. My mother never had a drivers license. which makes me giggle even more.
