Nature vs. Nurture (W/ Nanette Bellman)

by Anita Mac

She is drowning in drinking water
and 3M designed love notes.
This is an oddity to co-workers
but for her,
it's just another day at the office

She is an easy girl to fall in love with
and hard as indifference to love.

She is the drink you never see coming,
but there you are, drunk and never keeping up.
She will love and hate you for a time,
and herself always.

But she won't be whisked away.
No, she won't let herself be forgotten.

You can try to rub her from her eyes,
Pretend your retinas aren't clouded
with her visions of what she has in store for you.

She is the leech, the blood thirsty vixen,
who's got you clinging to her
more than you think she's clinging to you.
Or maybe not;
at this stage role-reversal won't matter much.

She is good
and she is kind,
but her Nature is in constant battle
with the unwitting Nurture of her life.

And for this reason,
looking back,
you will forgive it all.

Tried and treason memories will vanish
like smoke rings dissipating in the atmosphere.

We are all temporary.
To everyone. To everything.

She's just temporarily insane.

Author's Note: Much thanks to Nanette... I think we both already had this character in our heads waiting to spring out.

..Anita ...Nanette, you have penned a doll of a a pome; you lovingly lace the reader in one's alter ego[invented, mmmbut yet] feisty work ladies and when i saw you two paired-up to write one, naturely[no pun intended]great write! again. honestly, i love this pome, the poem of my day today. hats off to yall.

Either way the two of you do some great work here.

This is a great write and there is much truth here in what is said. We too often go headlong into love never thinking if we are ahead or behind the one we are attracted to. I love it.

There are so many unexpected turns in this, all of them absolutely true and terrificly written.

You two are rockin' with this!

Interesting concept to play with, and credible characterization; more than than, there's a pageload of fertile phrasing here -- seriously wry stuff...

Please color in the lines (or better outside her lines)... this sketch makes my camera sigh... highest marks!

Good poetic reminder that we're all damaged goods in one sense or another. I especially like how you close off with the truth and wisdom of these lines: We are all temporary. To everyone. To everything. She's just temporarily insane. Kudos to both of you!

You are the queen of collabs, Anita. This, like every other I have read, is brilliant.
