Donnie says

by Wendy Sparling

Donnie says,
“With all the hunger in the world,
and all the food wasted, there shouldn’t
be starving people on this planet.”

Donnie says,
“I can listen to music every week,
I’d rather spend my time listening to you.”

Donnie says,
“If you turn an empty deodorant
bottle upside down in water and
roll the ball to let the air out, it
will fill with water and you can
use it to wet postage stamps.”

Donnie says,
“I prefer to have no pictures on
my walls, I like it natural.”

Donnie says,
“ I carry big jugs full of water on
bus tours, so all the people can
swallow their pills.”

Donnie says,
“God created children, so
we can love and hold them.”

Author's Note: Donnie is my brother-in-law. Although he has spent most of his life in homes for the handicapped, his outlook in life is memorable. Last week we had a visit with Donnie, and I couldn't help but feel enlightened with his company. This isn't so much a poem, but it feels good to share him with you.

Great heart wrenching spiritual poem Wendy. Amen for Donnie, and may we meet more of his kind along the road.

You catch the resilient spirit of one who is not letting handicaps get in the way of enjoying life.
