Branding

by George Hoerner

walking and talking
words flowing
from Conrad to me
like the ocean mating
with barren land
he the fountain
i barren of all
but the basic emotions

both young and barely tested
i soaked like a rag what i could
and waited for other teachers
one taught the caution
of believing
what you think you know

a woman there another here
teaching me the thighs
and lows of love
everything sinking
to my soul
branding it for life

Oh i like this, George!..especially given my belief that the ocean side is the the fount of much that gave us life and meaning.

...george, this is moving; a wince one time a chckle the next. and all pivot on a basic tenet: the human existence.

it is good to be young as a sponge and as pliant and receptive and it is good as well to have arrived at an age to have the luxury be able to squeeze out of that sponge the things we took in when young, that we are no longer as certain to embrace as something worth the keeping.
