rebel

by Maria Massarella

the spirit soars

when broken

the chains

weaponless

hands

embrace

rainbows

of light

and music

pervades the heart

where peace

reigns

Author's Note: rebel*
because no boundaries can confine
the spirit that breaks free ...

rebel ... as in the liberating oneself of
any thing inner or outer that holds one
prisoner ...

rebel ... as in the dancing beyond the
audible music and tiredness of limbs ...

rebel ... as in the transformation of a
spring of tears welled in sadness into
oceans of infinite joy

simply because you exist

I really like your poem and the unique interpretation of "rebel" Maria. Good to read you again. How's the weather in Italia? It's very hot and humid here in Ottawa; close to 40 celcius with the humidex. This is the warmest year on record in Canadian history.

This liberating poem find sanctuary in your words. I love the way it resonates and carries the imagination beyond mortality.

Rebel with a cause! Rebelling against this world's imprisoning systems and "the sin that besets us"(Hebrews)! A poem that lifts the vision, sets sights on higher "things".

Redirecting our hands to rainbows is difficult when people keep giving away free swords. These words are the truth that needs to be said by every poet. However, not many will say them as well as you. Great read!

Maria you have such a vibrant soul. I see it in everything you write. I find encouragement when I read your poetry. There is beauty in this piece.
