a 4 going-on 5 story by Charlie Morganif i could stop the world,
i could get a better hold;
then i could know what he sees.
when his eyes dart into a make-
believe world of his imagination.
his active gasps to put the story
in motion cause me to stop, stare.
"paapaaaaW i'm telling a story."
'yessir, Mr. Kai, sorry i didn't hear you.'
"and then the bad guy comes in and kills
me and you, but we can come back to life.
Ryan says we can do that. he's 6, no seVeen!"
'so you want me to be a bad guy?'
"yeah and then you can die and come back
like Ryan says and then you can be a good guy.
wouldn't that be cool? you like that paapaaw?"
i like that Kai, i like that.
i would be the next poet-Master;
a boy-genius if i had the words. 07/15/2010 Posted on 07/15/2010 Copyright © 2025 Charlie Morgan

Posted by Morgan D Hafele on 07/16/10 at 02:31 AM charlie my man, a genius you are! but we don't need to stop the world, we just need to remember that far back. we all grow up in different times so it seems like a different world now, but really, we're all the same blood and bone and imaginations never really dry up. |
Posted by Glenn Currier on 07/16/10 at 03:05 PM Isn't it amazing what children have to teach us old farts. Kai is so lucky to have a kid for a paapaw. Fun read, Charlie. I can see that he is going to make your retirement a lot more fun than you could have imagined. |
Posted by Quentin S Clingerman on 07/20/10 at 02:11 PM Delightful child's story! If only life were so simple! This poem says also to me, let the child be a child - he will all too soon be an adult! |
Posted by Lori Blair on 11/30/11 at 11:43 PM Reminds me of when my own son was little and he thought dad could save the dead bunny in the yard by putting in new batteries..so very endearing Charlie! Life is so precious, isn't it? :) |
Posted by Kara Hayostek on 03/08/12 at 11:00 PM Everyone says being a granparent is better than being a parent (isn't that what they say?) but clearly it's true...and LOL at seVeen! That Ryan's got street cred! |
