Refurbishment by Angie JenkinsThere are times when someone makes you feel new
As if a fresh coat of paint was trickling down your insides,
Concealing the cracks
That have formed and stretched and deepened
From the pains before.
There are times when someone pulls back the broken chips
And splintered wood
Corroding your soul,
Leaving you raw and exposed
And real.
There are times when someone sees
The masterpiece
Amidst the shards of brokenness
And refurbishes your heart until you’re able
To expose your freshly polished soul
To the world.
But there are also times when these someones must leave us
To chip the broken paint from another,
For an artist must never reserve himself to one project
While so many others are in need of a fresh coat of paint.
And while they may not fully realize it
They leave a mark on our hearts
That can never be forgotten.
You were my someone.
Thank you for having the patience
To help change this “work in progress”
Into a work of art.

Author's Note: "Consider the rose...The rose is the sweetest smelling flower of all, and it's the most beautiful because it's the most simple, right? But sometimes, you've got to clip the rose. You got to cut the rose back, so something sweeter smelling and stronger, and even more beautiful, will grow in its place"

Posted by Glenn Currier on 07/12/10 at 04:01 AM You know, your poem has such a yen/yang thing to it - the darkness mixed all in with the light. One of the things I get from it is the sweetness of another human being seeing through all the rough exterior and history of mistakes to the beautiful soul within. It can be a very touching and healing thing. It takes a beautiful soul to be able to receive and appreciate the good stuff given by others even as they depart. Thanks for this thoughtful poem. |
Posted by George Hoerner on 07/12/10 at 12:43 PM I have been fortunate to have been saved more than a few times by a woman who came to me and in one way or another made me with strand reality for a bit longer or even start over. Sometimes we are just that lucky. Nice write lady. |

I love this poem. I know it is personal for you, but it is something that could resonate with most people. Excellent. |
