it's all lovely

by Charlie Morgan

it was 1969, she was 76, rocked in front of the August moon;
the same moon Neil Armstrong was walking on. Mike
and i were going to college and gigging frogs for their legs, a delicacy.
NASA was looking for new worlds to conquer.

electric lights came to her at a glare;
horse-drawn went to Poppin' Johnnys.
Model T's opened the veins of America.
moving-pictures, T.V. all in a whirlwind;
a dustbowl of generations swept o'er her head.

as i sat, i saw me as her; her as me. gulped,
then mustered a grin. just another dip in the pool
of reality. 'causes us to take the oar out of the water, float.

i got a megaphone, stood on the steps and annunciated.
tides depend on me,
my perceptions,
my pleasures,
lest they just be water.
the Sun's setting,
the Moon's rising.

tired,
i curl-up, a cacoon becomes me;
i escape between these lines;

There's one hell of a great story here. It's almost too much that it's wrapped up in such a powerhouse poetic form, too.

A lot of visual stuff here. I loved your wording- very relaxing- thanks.

for some reason this piece gives me fresh hope for the future. i can't really say why for sure, but charlie, as always excellent writing my man! the third stanza i think is my favorite, just speaks to me in a way.

An enchanting mixture of big and small; past, present and future; mundane and mystical. Love the line "Model T's opened the veins of America." Interesting that you ended with a semi-colon...was that intentional?

What Morgan said above - I think the reason it gives hope is that you string together generations and show the young that you don't have to be old even if you are aged. You are NEVER old, my friend. That's why the young people on this site love you. Why we aged ones like you is that you are always here with your megaphone proclaiming life and love and some kind of really intense awareness of the world around you. Thanks, Chaz.
