I survived route 10

by A. Paige White

Route 10
One of the backroads you could take
when traveling back in time
on the map it was the shortest route
would cut off hours of waiting for reunion
but the map neglected to note the greatest speed
was about 40 mph...
and that only barely reached before you had to brake
for another turn
young in our promises to each other
not young to brokenness
ignorant, we mapped what we thought
the way that would be best
little did we know of the hairpin curves
where we were from, if a map shows a shorter distance
it equals shorter duration
shorter distance = shorter travel time - period
to see that mountain mama
l = ?

Author's Note: We both thought we deserved a medal, a t-shirt at least!
Turns so short you can kiss your butt...
found another one today... up the hill
and down the hill and round and round and round
Don't trust any map showing a road that looks straight here!
I googled the one we traveled today
and had to laugh at how much it lied.

Well the roads to paradise were never supposed to be straight and without difficulty, even if they appear shorter. If you ever seen the blue ridge mountains in rural va, ky, wv, tnn, and nc its like going back in time 50 or 60 years, and it is beautiful. There is a road like that from Ashville to charlotte. It has a place called bat cave and chimney rock on it, the hwy was hwy 74. Specatacular view but a beast to drive

This is a gem. You have a way of trying things up beautifully- this time with music. I LOVE your creativity!

Oh! oh! a travel pome! There is so much poetry in travel if one pauses to think of it. Looks like you did just that. All the turns, some hairpins, others downhill then uphill - just like life, huh? My fav OF COURSE!: "young in our promises to each other / not young to Brokenness." Thanks for another page of Paige, my dear.

We always think the path is one thing but it turns out to be quite another. Once we do finally find our way, the route we took is very little like the one we planned. Great read!
