i'm big as the sky by Charlie Morganthe Milky Way's edge slices space so thin,
i layer it star by star, sun by sun.
neverending is not a kid's story; more, a saga
of mankind's story, condensed. a pin's head.
time slows to day-night intervals, cacooning
our life into bamboo shoots; sprout where we fall.
a wave from street-standers, another generation
prances by, wearing the same King's clothes others
have worn generations before and before and before.
the parapet of lives float by, bottle-neck, awaiting
directions. left? right? stop? go? up? or down?
which way is Heaven? i'm waiting, over here. 07/01/2010 Author's Note: just to wake up the nodders! ;-0

Posted by Therese Elaine on 07/01/10 at 09:08 PM Heaven is usually far closer than we realize, and home dwells in the heart of another person...glory in the ability of man to conquer heights...and consider that while we've managed to reach the stars, we've never managed to get to the bottom of the ocean...how's that for a Heaven/Hell allegory?!?! Beautiful Charlie, as always.

Posted by Linda Fuller on 07/02/10 at 04:09 PM I love how this poem goes out and in and down and up and back...dizzying...a lot of your poems have this quality I think. When I read "parapet" I thought "panoply"...? ...? (Four ellipses for you, sir.)
Posted by Glenn Currier on 07/03/10 at 10:22 PM Uh-oh... Charlie done went and got all cosmic on me again. I like the title especially - so true of you my imaginative friend. I like this line a lot: "of mankind's story, condensed. a pin's head" How condensed it seems when looking up... providing you are not in Dallas Texas lately with all the clouds... but knowing you... you could look up and come up with a whole new pome in a different direction. I know there have been many of those street-standers who have seen your parade and appreciated your wide skyness. This one does.
