Woman Of Sin by Jasmine Sword-MannIcarus dreamed to fly
on feathers and wax,
the brave fool.
And braver still, his
pagan voodoo and
amber prison;
Fingertips spread wide
as the flames burned.
I've dreamed of the quiet
before the fall. Of icy depths
and emerald fire.
Fingertips spread wide
as the waves drown.
Temptation, I know you.
The sea has swallowed my
wings and I am the straw
that lashed the beast's back -
a whore, a sin,
a
woman. 06/29/2010 Posted on 06/29/2010 Copyright © 2025 Jasmine Sword-Mann

Posted by Charlie Morgan on 06/29/10 at 11:20 PM ...jasmine, this rocks. delightfully penned. linebreakage is smack-0. and the gutsy-ness, delicious rawness of 'knowing temptation' kicking!
Posted by Morgan D Hafele on 06/29/10 at 11:35 PM the last stanza blew my mind! awesome

Posted by Jeffrey Parren on 06/30/10 at 07:53 AM it is one of those writes that changes and grows deeper after each reading. the imagery catapults the reader into many situations and i have to agree, the last stanza pulls it all together quite well...~JPP

Posted by Aaron Michael on 07/02/10 at 01:41 AM i like this for many reasons. One, YOU'RE WRITING!!!! Two, the ties of Icarus to your temptation was a wonderful idea. it fits the tone of the piece so perfectly. I can't say it enough, Jaz. Your poetry amazes me.
Posted by Glenn Currier on 07/03/10 at 01:31 AM I like the mixing of mythology and current condition of a real earthwoman - plugging away. I can see the hand up as if to shout STOP! I know the feeling. How many times I have said: "Get thee behind me, ego/Satan." Thanks for this little slice of what it means to be human.
