Maybe One Day

by Maude Curtis

The old red reliable car is gone.
Totaled by a kid on a cell phone.

Sitting still as a bird on a wire,
He hit us going 50 miles an hour.

He claimed that since it'd been raining
His car just went hydra-plaining.

The phone an extension of his left hand
and the radio blaring the lastest rock band.

The mile long view "blocked by the sun".
No explanations please, "CALL 911".

So now we're shopping for another car,
something that shouts who we are.

I want the little red convertable you see.
That's the car that really looks like me.

But Freddie says "Take it on the chin,"
and get something to haul all the grandkids in.

So a 7 passenger van is what we bought
and the little red convertible still sits on the lot.

Author's Note: Someday I'll get my little red convertible.

UNREAAL- the worst is when people text while driving. It's illegal in this state, but the law is not enforced.

Technically, it's illegal in every state. The extraneous and stupid laws legislatures are coming up with the specifically ban txting whilst driving don't really change the fact that it is reckless driving and driving to endanger. Distracted driving of any sort is a bad idea and against the law everywhere. I'm really sorry you didn't get your little red convertible to tool around in - whilst listening to Prince blair "Little Red Corvette"

Great story poem, Maude. Love the mixture of humanity and automobile.

Maude- I miss you, Maude. When I see you name, I cry. You were the sunshine in this site. I did not know IF you were sick. Maude- you were a REAL person...and yes...STUPID people are STILL texting and driving. I miss you very much. You had a real heart and soul. You left too soon.
