wanderin cowboy song by Ulyss RubeySomehow I've arrived where I'm standin
A long way down the trail toward the end-
Not workin too hard understandin
why-where or which way it begin.
I've worn out fourteen horses and five saddles
Drove off all my gals and some friends-
Rode hard for loose women and loose cattle
Never knowin which way to begin.
There's been many good and some bad ones
Days ridin for what's 'round the next bend-
'Long the trail left two wives and two goodsons
Wonderin why-where and which way to begin.
Now I'm on my last horse and last saddle
Somewhere down the trail near the end-
Still havin no luck understandin
Why-where or which way to begin.

Posted by George Hoerner on 06/24/10 at 01:46 PM I love it! There is a truth here that one seldom finds today. |

Posted by Chris Sorrenti on 08/17/10 at 02:40 AM Glad I chanced upon this Ulyss in checking out your library. Although personal, and definitely capturing that sense of country western sadness, I think we all can relate to it in our own way, so its equally universal. |

I like how your poem speaks to every buckaroo that ever rode the range. Plenty of heartache and heapin helpin of good ol’ fashioned what’s next. Good stuff, Uly. |
