old-fashioned word by Kristina Woodhilli know it's an old-fashioned word
but
you were giddy
a giggling, happy, sparkling-eyed
young woman;
I swear you were wearing
your best jewelry for the occasion,
your hair in plaits of ebony perfection,
dazzling earrings and gold necklace
setting off a lovely dress
of purples and small flowers
that touched your figure
in gracefully draped places;
your three young children
surrounded you in wonder
as you set your hand to a world
many consider obsolete,
many have discarded for
technologies all named "I",
paying through some unseen Pal
whose wand makes paper disappear;
there you were
saying, "I can't believe it!"
laughing and laughing,
as I nudged your elbow
a little to the right lying on the solid, flat table top,
as we began your first lesson
in the upward sweep of a pencil
writing a simple cursive "e"

| Posted by Jason Moskalyk on 06/14/10 at 04:20 PM Very warm feelings in this poem as the 'students' begin to instruct their old 'teachers' :D Thanks for sharing! |
| Posted by George Hoerner on 06/14/10 at 08:18 PM Nice write Kristina and reflection on what the newest inventions are that twit our minds eye and make us believe we are soooo much ahead of this game people call life. I suspect in the teens and twentys it was the car that had everyone's attentions believing they could run ahead of the sun and live forever. |

| Posted by David Hill on 06/15/10 at 02:04 AM I like the pay-pal reference, and the I-pad-phone-whatever business. I fear books are next, what with Kindle. Think how easy it would be to control electronic books. Who needs a burning? All we need is a patriot act. The subversion starts with a simple cursive “e.”
