Your face, so like a beetle’s by Linda FullerYour face, so like a beetle’s
shard of wing:
tough, protective
of what waits behind
Some would call it
soul, but I think more
a chemical seesaw
from imbalance to stasis
Your heart colors
your cheeks with shame,
swathes your gut
busy with peristalsis
And darkness pools
in moist interstices
where microbial rhinos
pause to drink.
