Deaf

by George Hoerner

it is as if
the words
were written
in sand and
each time
you get
close enough
to hear
a wave
runs in
and washes
the words
back into
the ocean

their meaning
left to wander
the globe
looking for
a listener

so I took you
away from
the warm sand
to the cold
winter mountains
whispered words
and watched
as they almost
reached your ear
but they froze
stopping
somewhere
between us

...chillingly great...this is one that i have to read later and savor...i felt a fast-zooming wind, then needed air to help blow your words into that air that wouldn't let her hear...this is top-heavy...a keeper as so many of yours are.

tides have had a hand in editing anything we may have writ upon the sand which held virtue for a time, but tides will ne'er erase what you have captured here, George, which is an essential truth that hits us where we bathe and listen.

wow, this is an AMAZING poem...I love it, the start, the finish, the arc in the middle...just feels absolute, thoughtful, finely crafted, and one of those things you just wish you had written yourself...lovely piece, an instant fav for me...kudos, peace, jewels xo
