Would Someone Please Tell Me

by Joan Serratelli

Would someone
please tell me
why I bother
to get up
in the morning?

I think that
I have become
absolutely obsolete

I could be replaced
with a younger
prettier
better
person

I do nothing right
All I do is exist
for your convience
You have me
exactly
where you want me
living in your shadow
under your thumb

Everyone needs
a purpose
I have none

We must make our own purpose and I think writing helps. For others the search for truth where ever they see it.

The hour is always darkest before the dawn, Joan...TAKE HEART..the light is coming sooner than you think

The willing destiny guides us. The unwilling destiny drags us...it's a question only you can answer and then realize your own intrinsic value, which I assure you you do possess! Thanks.

You have an important purpose: writing poems that educate, provoke thought, experiment with emotion.

That second stanza hits pretty close to home here, Joan. I wonder how many of us feel invisible from time to time. You've captured that well.

Very relatable indeed, especially the first stanza. You capture well the melancholy of a meaningless life or the feeling of uselessness we human beings are so prone to, especially when that God-shaped hole in us is left unfilled. Well done, veri insightful indeed.

JOY JOY JOY and some of that JOY is a gift from you - thanks a ... LOT Sco u

Dear Joen, your poetry bares the soul so openly, it is invaluable on here...we all have our purpose, but it doesn't have to be traditional...find yourself again, and it too will fuel your poetry, the way this frustration can...

I will give you a simple answer, because you are needed. There are so few people as wonderful as you in this world, without you the world would be a darker place.
