Rooster

by Clara Mae Gregory

be wary of the wandering accuser

sitting smuggly in his judgement seat

for he is just a spurious pretender

wallowing fowl in wealth and infamy

Yellow colors preferenced meat

chewed,consumed and eliminated

hollowing out his heartless soul

as his women come and go

for he's a game player

and a name slayer

turning life into a lie

twisting it to deny

the TRUTH that lives

behind his pride

and blinded eye

Author's Note: I don't know where this came from....it is raw, unedited and came out directly from my head....I think it may be a blend of Ali's recent horror combined with some other events I've observed....

Hmm, this kind of sounds a little like me actually, well except for the whole wallowing in wealth part. "Spurious pretender" - I like that. It sounds contradictory at first, but it does make a lot of sense actually... Sense to me anyway, though I don't know if that's saying much. Anyway, I liked the whole of the poem very much - there are licentious people everywhere... Well said and well done.

Clara- this is a wonderful write. The last 4 lines are absolutely brilliant. the best poems are written off the top of the head and out of the heart. Thanks for sharing. Don't change a word...it's amazing.

There are many great word choices in this - I wrap my mouth around them with gusto. This flows with purpose and is a cautionary tale to read and re-read. Thank you.
