A Poem Within Her Head

by Maria Terezia Ferencz

her thoughts were hungry and fed on her
they chewed right through her mind
ravenous verse it found her out
masticating each and every sigh
and then it would just spit them out
much to her delight
in wads of words complex enough
to hide her true intent
but just enough to let it out
and once again prevent
the thing that she detested most
being complacent

it beat and battered all her dreams
and lied down safe within
curled up on down created
from the dreams that lied within

dying dreams are never soft
they rip they cut they burn
but with the help of hungry words
they choose another form
a softness a down never seen
by eyes full of regret
once spit out by words
these dreams
though dead can still beget
a comfort when they take the form
of a poem within her head

I like story-poems. Here, you've written an exceptionally strong one that curls into my mind. And I love this. I noticed it yesterday, and it stayed with me through the night.

I can strongly relate to this. The manic state of creating new poetry, or any kind of art for that matter. Aptly expressed Maria.

a wonderful flow and intricate imagery for a topic so near to all us poets/artists when working on our craft...I love that the rhyme doesn't distract but rather rocks the reader into dreams of their own with each new image...well done, peace, jewels
