Dreams Take No Pris'ners

by Amie Golda

Cleverly disguised as adults,
We'll patrol the seas of responsibility
like the haphazard children we are;
Stuck effervescently in a state of pandemonium
And white collared suits,
We'll bury our secret dreams and desires in an island
For another day, another way.
And another white whale shall taunt us,
'Til we ride the storms to the end pages
And find no white whales for prizes.
And despite all claims our clothes may make,
We shall go down with our ships
And the jolly roger, that laughs at the irony
That though our hair never falls in quite the same way
If we could change the world,
We'd rather stay in and sleep.
Because a thousand brilliant moons
couldn't stop our voyage to the sun;
And a mile is less than an inch in dreams
That fade and grow like waves on a shore,
Because only in the movies do you get a thousand takes
'til it all the cuts come out clean.

Very well put. My dreams can be so bizarre at times, and yet I'd rather stay in bed on some days. Thanks for the well worded reminder.

I, too, would rather sleep. I get up too early. I (thankfully) almost never dream. I try hard not to deal with the reality of life. Unfortunately, I am a grown-up. I don't think I have gotten "peaceful" sleep in a long time. Excellent write!
