Atop the Mount by Kristina WoodhillDo Not Disturb
all the signs are there,
and you, the lead thumper;
shoulders slumped
and up against it,
breath puffing
like some old steam engine
addressing the last incline
rumpled hair, comfy sweats,
a random house full of dirty dishes,
lost words, piled high images
sofa cushions exhausted,
pummeled with each
successful biathlon shot,
each skate's landed triple Lutz,
each ski's finished slalom,
each snow board's kissed sky
walls riddled, ricocheting
whoops, hollers,
mighty groans;
ceilings keep distance
arms orchestrate
body parts in all directions;
heads direct, redirect, misdirect
feet pound floors;
hands clap hands,
backs, table tops
mouths sing full operatic repertoire -
cacophony, profanity,
supplication, divination,
humanity
Shakespeare could not write
better drama
Michelangelo could not chisel
better physique
Monet could not improve upon
these brush strokes of human desire
we are god chasers
we still hunt the prize

Posted by A. Paige White on 02/28/10 at 04:29 AM The prize of the hunt is upon that highest place isn't He beside us with the sweats? What a garland of grace to find the hunters really the hunted... Beautifully done, Kristina. |
