"Let it Snow...Let it Snow...Let it Snow"

by Fredrich Mohre

( MiMi instills me to write )

It snowing again……..
The fifth time this winter.
Seems like another chapter of the Pleistocene epoch….
AND THE WHOLE WORLD STOPS!!!
It’s gonna be a big one……again.
Higher than an ‘Elefant’s Azzwhole
Thus intones the local weatherman.
( Well, maybe he used a less colorful vernacular. )
Anyway , it’s still knee deep to an buffalo’s butt….
AND THE WHOLE WORLD STOPS !!!!!
Every hot dog, jug of milk and microwave pizza
has been stripped from the supermarket shelves.
Can’t find a two-liter bottle of Mountain Dew
in fourteen square miles;
‘Cause the kids will be home for at least four dayz.
AND THE WHOLE WORLD STOPS !!!!
BUT….
WE’RE RETIRED…I MEAN REALLLLLY RETIRED !!!
“ Ohhhh, the weather outside is SNOWING….
And the fire in side is GLOWING…..
Blah blah….blah….blah…blahhhh…
LET IT SNOW….LET IT SNOW…..LET IS SNOW…..”
Our four-wheeling offspring
And grandkids come crashing in,
Like a SWAT team thru the door,
Depositing a mass of super tots
On us, like an army of paratroopers
On a tactical target…….
And swiftly drive out of sight into the
Blinding white tundra...
BECAUSE THE WHOLE WORLD STOPPED !!!
In Actuality
OUR WORLD”S JUST BEGINNING…..
LET IT SNOW….LET IT SNOW….LET IT SNOW……
Soon the smell of pancakes and bacon
permeates the winter air.
The chatter of grandchildren
creates a symphony…
Chaotic as Copeland, yet
sweet as Smetana’s “Moldau.
interrupted momentarily by fussing over
Internet gaming sites.
“Who wants marshmallows in their hot chocolate??”
OK, One more time…who can’t eat peanut butter???”
“No, I’m sorry, I can’t read Big Red Dog
and build models at the same time….”
“TAKE TURNS ON THE MOUSE !!!!”
“Stop pestering your little brother.”
“Yep, big guy, you can cuddle up right here on my lap”
“I’m sure we can watch the Scoobie_Doo movie …
For the third time today……”
( Oh Joy !!!! )
“Come here and blow your nose baby,
And let’s get some Vaporub on your chest.’
“Sorry we can’t build a snowman until the blizzard stops,
You might get lost in the storm and wander out of the yard,
And you’ll never be found again until next spring….”
( That sounded pretty good…)
LET IT SNOW….LET IT SNOW…..LET IT SNOW……
“Who-wants-what on their hot dog?…..”
‘NO, you can’t dip your french fries in your milk.”
“ What? You want to drop your Tonka Truck in the
Middle of the Battleship game?.....
Look, I know you’re losing, but I can’t find
The Nuclear Option in the rules…anywhere !!
Look, guys, I think a good nap is in order, right now….
( wake me up in an hour)
LET IT SNOW…LET IT SNOW….LET IT SNOW…..
“Really, I don’t think you should paint your
Model jet fighter in day-glow purple.”
“Yes, sweetheart, I think we can watch the Scoobie-Doo movie
for the fifth time today “
“Will, come take a break on MiMi’s lap,
Jasper, put your head right here,
and take a short pause.”
“Chris, turn down the volume on
the Bumble Bee game…….”
HARK….HARK…a whole seven-point-five minutes
of heavenly, blissful silence………
The dogs gotta go out…….NOW ???”
THE WHOLE WORLD STOPPED…..when….where ???
“ I love you, Pooh-daddy……
Mimi, can we stay till tomorrow?......we don’t want to go home…
‘Love you, MiMi….”
LET IT SNOW…LET IT SNOW….LET IT SNOW……..
Air mattresses and sleeping bags
strewn throughout the living room.
“All right troops, lights out”
Last minute glasses of water,
the day’s last lengthy warm hugs.
….dragging my tired tail to bed,
A quick peek to see the snow finally lightening up.
I look back at a long burn-your-butt- into-the-ground day.
Slipping into bed, I find Mimi sleeping
“ala commando’
(must’a had a pleasant little ambush planned on her own)
I listen to her gentle pleasant snoring-
I should’a got here a little quicker….
I hunker down, and put my arm around
her warm sweet body
She quietly whispers’
“ Is it still snowing?’ “
I reply’ “ Like a cow peeing on a flat rock “
( I found such a refined, romantic vocabulary,
from staying in the Army)
“Yep, it’s really comin’ down”
“I thought maybe you should call the kids,
tell them to just leave the little ones
here for the weekend.”
The roads are probably pretty nasty,
and besides, we got a freezer full of
sausage biscuits, pizza, and a dozen other goodies…
Think we could handle that?”
She mutters, “ Oh yeah, that sounds good “
I sink into the pillows and ponder
our full day of kinder care,
Somehow, my eyes well up a bit,
thinking of that last series of warm
soul melting hugs,
as they went to sleep…….
Tired, and exhausted I smile in contentment……
THE WHOLE WORLD STOPPED!!!
But the world
started……
with the first snowflakes…
OUR WORLD….
As we love it…….
LET IT SNOW….LET IT SNOW…..LET IT SNOW

( written in Love, for Maudie, and the grandkids)
