she said by Charlie Morganshe said she didn't mean it, you know, the truth.
the truth then. Then's truth is not Now's truth.
i stand in seconds of thought, deserts of memories;
yet, i know at least a mirage of an oasis is mine.
she said her poems did that, changed on her.
i laughed. she's surprised that poems change.
i laughed. more, i knew how many changed on me.
didn't have the heart to tell her all of them.
they all change from the first stroke; the poem
becomes The Poem and you no longer are in contol;
sit back let that blood pulse in those oily hands.
put words at the end of another word. so on, so on.
i'm working to finally surrender myself to the idea.
i been thinking i'm a poet so long, i believed it.
and now. now at the awareness that The Poem writes
the poems. i am shattered. all i have is me, mine.

Posted by George Hoerner on 02/16/10 at 03:16 AM Very nice write Charlie. The best poems seem to me those that just flow out of the pen pushing themselves onto the paper an so many of yours seem to do just that. Very well done!
Posted by Nanette Bellman on 02/16/10 at 06:58 AM Wow Mr. Morgan. You seemed to have summed up writing. There's no such as writers. The Poem choses it's author, not the author choses the poem.

Posted by Joan Serratelli on 02/16/10 at 04:59 PM Wonderful train of thought piece- honest. I agree with Nanette- it's all a matter of fate. I think that writing comes from within the soul. No soul- no poem. You obviously have a great soul.

Posted by Kris Mara on 02/17/10 at 04:41 PM I never have time to read lately, but I popped in and saw this and am so glad that I had a few minutes here. Because this is one of those pieces that says all that I know I never could put into words...and it's amazing to read them from you...and whatever writes those words, you are the interpreter of them, the artist facilitating their birth...and in these moments, when I'm sure of all that I am not, your words come through to speak so much to me...thank you for sharing -- and for reminding me what creativity demands and what I should allow it (oh, I hope that made sense!)
Posted by Jeffrey Parren on 02/18/10 at 12:12 AM I enjoyed all of this but have the feeling the twists and turns of the first poem can lead to its own poem as well. I think it can be expanded and be another poem. You've done it again...~JPP
