Soon Enough

by Alison McKenzie

And yet
I belong to no man.
My hands, unclaimed,
Lay folded in my lap.
My heart, bearing only
The name I’ve given myself
Beating a solitary rhythm.

And though
I am surrounded by love
None of it knows me by name,
The fragrance wafting
Lazy in a windless willow,
I inhale,
Though it does not sustain.

Unasked, and unanswered,
These questions that float
Upon the tranquil waters
Of a river named Emotion –
Soon enough
Will I become the ocean,
And nothing more.

"And though I am surrounded by love, None of it knows me by name." Have you been eavesdropping on my thoughts this valentine's weekend....excellent read...thanks

Lovely, matter-of-fact, but I must say the ocean is vast and full of such beauty and mystery.

...ali, as deep as that ocean you're becoming, quite lovely.
